As an instructor, Coach Widelski is a firm believer in:

  • Helping student-athletes enjoy the game of baseball
  • Keeping student-athletes as healthy as possible through the use of proper mechanics
  • Providing a means to allow student-athletes to be as consistently successful as possible by maximizing their individual strengths

Coach Widelski comes to us with 19 Years of Coaching Experience

  • 1993 Graduate of Thornwood High School.
    • Named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches All-State Team in 1993.
    • Member of the Thornwood 1991 Illinois Class AA State Champs Club
    • Ranked #2 in Nation
  • 1997 Graduate of Notre Dame
    • Graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame with a degree in Communications
    • Former Notre Dame left-handed pitcher
    • Four-year member of the Notre Dame baseball program from 1994-97
    • Helped the Irish compile nearly a .700 winning percentage (171-74) during that span, plus three regular-season conference titles and two trips to the NCAAs.
    • Shouldered an expanded role as a senior in 1997 and responded by winning all three of his decisions, with a 5.89 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched.
  • 1999 Masters Graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in Sports Management
    • 1998-1999 Pitching Coach at Northern Illinois University
    • Two pitchers from his tenure at NIU signed professional contracts
  • 2000-2004 Assistant Coach for Notre Dame Baseball
    • Wally helped lead the Fighting Irish to four 40-win seasons as a member of the pitching staff and a #1 national ranking (2001) and College World Series appearance (2002) as a member of the coaching staff
